THE IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
ICT is the fastest changing area of our global society with the rate of technological change rising exponentially. As such we are working towards educating the next generation of students for jobs that may not even exist today.
Recognising this huge shift, it is vital that we provide our students with a relevant, engaging and progressive curriculum in ICT and Computing.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Key Stage 3
In KS3 students initially begin problem solving using common software applications before moving on to Year 8 & 9 where they are introduced to, and develop knowledge and understanding across a range of ICT and Computing themes.
Key Stage 4
Students opting to take ICT at Key Stage 4 will undertake in a traditional ICT GCSE qualification. The qualification teaches students about the theoretical applications of communication and computing technologies but also allows them to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and practical skills through controlled assessments/projects.
Current Year 11 students are completing their OCR National Level 2 Award in ICT and will be the last cohort studying this specific qualification.
Post 16
The Post 16 ICT qualifications offered at TRS continue the trend of providing our students a good mix of theory and practical experiences. Students are able to opt to study AS/A2-Level or BTEC Level 3 ICT qualifications. The AS/A2 qualification provides a more traditional approach to learning with students assessed through more formal examinations of their knowledge, skills and understanding, whereas the BTEC provides a more practical and skills based learning environment. Either qualification offers students an in depth and rounded exposure to a broad and balanced IT curriculum that will suitably prepare them for the work of work or progression into higher education.
The Future
In the near future we aim to be able to offer learners the opportunity to study Computing at both GCSE and AS/A2 GCE level.
